Eddie was a funny rat, curmudgeonly like a grumpy old grandfather hiding a heart of gold. He was eternally greedy and lazy, and loved lazing on a shoulder or in a hood with a constant supply of fruit and yoghurt drops.
Several months before he went to the Bridge, he moved in with my best friend Ginge as I was finding it hard to give him all the attention he needed, alongside having a young son. Ginge gave Eddie the life he deserved and I will be eternally grateful that I was able to stay close to him despite him not living with me.
In the last few weeks of his life, Eddie deteriorated rapidly, losing weight and looking rather ragged, and he eventually developing hind-leg paralysis. We took him to the vet immediately upon realising this, and realised that the kindest option would be to put him to sleep, as he was obviously suffering a lot of pain and discomfort.
He went to the chamber after many loving words and scritches, and departed this world peacefully to play at the Bridge with all the rats he used to beat up in this life!
